7 TRAITS THAT WILL HELP YOU BE SUCCESSFUL AND WIN 2019
January 06, 2019
Happy New Year! I can't believe that we are already a week into 2019. Tempus fugit! One phrase that I remember after taking several years of Latin. Mea culpa Magistra Holly. Mea culpa. Time really does go by so quickly and while we can't go back and change what has happened in the past, time brings us new opportunities to make better decisions today and in the future.
So what have I been doing so far in 2019? Well, aside from getting back to work, I have rediscovered Gary Vee. I know, I know. Everyone knows about Gary Vaynerchuck. I knew about him too, but something about hitting January 1 put me on again. I have some big plans for 2019 and I want to focus on achieving my goals no matter what. Gary Vee speaks to my spirit in a very inspiring way. He's also hilarious so there's that.
I spent the end of 2018 in Guadeloupe. It was amazing! Blog post and video content - coming soon. * Hold me to that!* Anyway, after the clock struck midnight and I partied with family and friends for a few hours I went to bed because I had an 8:30 am a flight on New Years Day. An early morning international flight meant waking up at 5:30 am (something I had not been doing all vacation long) so I could get ready and be on the road for 6 am to arrive at Pointe-à-Pitre Le Raizet Airport before 7 am.
I woke up and made it to the airport on time and began my 10-hour journey. Now, you may be doing some calculations and trying to figure out how it took that long to get from the Caribbean back to Atlanta, the answer - layover. I had a layover in Fort Lauderdale and since I now had cell service as well as wifi, I decided to check out YouTube to see what my favorite YouTubers had uploaded. The video that caught my eye wasn't from one of the Fashion, Beauty, or Lifestyle accounts that I'm subscribed to instead if was one of GaryVee's videos - The Most Important Traits Contributing to My Success.
The video is of an ADHD Interview that Gary did with Travis Mills in November 2018 but was published to Gary Vee's channel on January 1, 2019. I started watching and realized 20 minutes later that I had watched the entire thing. I think Gary's mention of Yoda and Creed hooked me and kept me watching. If you haven't seen it, scroll down to watch it below.
7 TRAITS FOR SUCCESS + WIN IN 2019
1. SELF-AWARENESS If you're good at judging yourself and accept yourself for who you are you can focus on the things you're good at and not worry about the things you suck at or you can hire someone who's good at those things to do them for you. Know yourself, love yourself and you'll be happier.
2. MEMORY Having a great memory helps.
3. HAPPINESS is the goal. Many of us talk about making more money and equate money to happiness, but money is a means to an end, not necessarily the end itself. We spend a large percentage of our lives working so the work that we do should make us happy instead of wasting the precious time that we have doing something we hate and later regretting it. Focus on what makes you happy. Do what you need to do to get to your happy, even if that means making less money so you can spend more time achieving happiness.
4. EMPATHY If you put yourself out there on social media, a viewer may judge you in the 30 seconds of exposure that they have to you. Anyone and everyone can suck at any point in their lives especially if they are being judged by a millisecond of that lifetime. Empathize with those with those who may drag you because that person is not in a good place. Their negativity has more to do with them than it has to do with you.
5. LISTEN and WATCH. Whether you are playing the New Year, New You game or continuing efforts you previously started to live your best life by being your best, you have to listen and watch. If you want to change your life, if you want to change the world, you have to be a student of it. You have to become obsessed. What you learn from listening and watching will position you for achieving and crushing your goals.
6. PERFECTIONISM is a losing game. Do the math! You get more from doing 10 things at an 8 than 1 thing at a 10.
10 x 8 = 80 and 1 x 10 = 10
80 > 10
EXECUTION > PERFECTION !
7. It's a SELFLESS vs. selfish game out there in the social marketing and social media space. Gary Vee reminds us, it's not about likes but about admiration. Humans can and will admire those who give them VALUE. Neither pretty face nor scoring 50 points in a game provide lasting life-changing effects for a person. Be less selfish and more selfless and you'll grow your audience because of the value you are bringing to them.
