The Bella's are back on top: 'PITCH PERFECT 2' tops U.S. Box Office

The dust has settled and Pitch Perfect 2 is the weekend winner.
The Barden Bellas sang their way to the top spot this weekend at the box office and put Pitch Perfect 2 on top. The musical comedy made an amazing $70.3 million speeding ahead of Mad Max: Fury Road and knocking Avengers: Age of Ultron out of first place.

The sequel about the all-female a capella group the Barden Bellas and their attempt to sing their way back to the top after being suspended from collegiate competition surpassed the original Pitch Perfect, which only grossed $65 million during its run in North America. Congratulations are definitely in order for Elizabeth Banks and her directorial debut. Who run the world? Girls! Banks is now the debut director (female or male) that has had the biggest opening weekend.

George Miller's Mad Max: Fury Road drove into second place at the U.S. box office with $44 million. However, globally the film is outpacing Pitch Perfect 2 $109.4 million to $108.4 million. Mad Max: Fury Road has had great reviews which may propel the reboot's box office earnings.
Hot Pursuit, the Reese Witherspoon and Sofia Vergara comedy took in $5.7 million and landed in the fourth position. Rounding out the top five is Furious 7 bringing in another $3.6 million in its seventh week for a grand total of $343.8 million.
