2015 GRAMMY NOMINATIONS ANNOUNCED
December 06, 2014The Recording Academy announced the
nominations for the 57th Annual GRAMMY Awards throughout the day yesterday,
except for Album of The Year, which was announced last night during the one-hour
TV concert special, A Very GRAMMY Christmas. To be considered for nomination,
recordings must be released within the eligibility year October 1, 2013 –
September 30, 2014.
This year newcomer and soulful
British singer/songwriter, Sam Smith, is leading the pack as one of the
most-nominated artists of the 2015 GRAMMY Awards. But, Smith isn’t alone at the
top of the list because Beyoncé and Pharrell Williams tie with him each also earning
six nominations, including Album of The Year. Beyoncé has been breaking molds
and has broken the record set by Dolly Parton as the most nominated female
artist in GRAMMY Award history. Iggy Azalea, Beck, Usher, Miranda Lambert, Sia,
and Jack White garnered hour GRAMMY nods each. Azalea and Sam Smith among
others will battle it out for Best New Artist Award.
Neil Portnow, President/CEO of The
Recording Academy is pleased with the myriad of artists nominated stating:
“This year’s nominees are a reflection of the
music community’s diversity and range of talent, and a testament to The Academy’s
voting process… The Recording Academy is pleased to celebrate this talented
crop of artists, nominated to receive music’s greatest honor for their contributions
to their respective genres. The tone for Music’s Biggest Night has undoubtedly
been set, and we look forward to producing one of the most exciting telecasts
in GRAMMY history.”
The 57th Annual GRAMMY Awards
will take place on Sunday, February 8, 2015 at the STAPLES Center in Los
Angeles and air live on CBS 8 PM (ET).
