This past Saturday, I had the privilege of attending the Urban Female Entertainment & Quentesential Branding ATL Lunch and Learn. The three-hour event, sponsored by BE Entertained Magazine, started off with attendees networking and enjoying some good eats. The Lunch part of the Lunch and Learn lasted a little over an hour, which allowed attendees to mingle, get to know each other, and exchange business cards or a mixtape.

This was followed by the Learn which consisted of a panel discussion featuring a few of the players in the ATL music scene. The panel included Bossman Q, Darryl Easterling, and Rodney Simpson, with BE Entertained Magazine's own J. Write serving as event host.

Here's a little more about the panelists.

Bossman Q, GQ Reeves, is the son of Hip Hop legend Kid Capri but has made a name for himself in his own right. He may not sing, but chances are he’s written or produced the songs that you love to bump to. Q is a songwriter, label executive, Grammy Award winner, event host, choreographer, actor, and philanthropist. His accomplishments include winning the Black Man Can Award (Education), founding the Coaching to Success Campaign, and appearances on NBC’s Law and Order and BET’s Let’s Stay Together. Bottom line, he's talented. Word on the street is that some exciting news is forthcoming about a major career accomplishment for Bossman Q in 2015.

Darryl Easterling, Jusin Time (aka Tiger Da Writer), is not afraid to hustle. The singer, songwriter, M&T A&R consultant, and motivational speaker started from the bottom and has worked his way up. He has created a formula that works for him and it keeps him successful while he’s chasing his passion.

Easterling has been homeless and slept on a yoga mat on a gym floor but that didn’t stop him. He had much to share about his struggle to come up in the industry and how he was able to do it. However, of more importance are the choice words of inspiration he shared with those in attendance at the ATL Lunch and Learn event. “Only the strong will survive, and the weak will fold!”

His advice: Stay Hot, Humble, and Hungry. If you follow this formula you will stand out. Take risks and take them often. Go out and get it, the opportunity will not fall in your lap.

Make sure to check out his single Somebody to Love available on iTunes.

Rodney Simpson, aka AKSHUN, has also worked his way up to success. Starting out as an intern at JOI studio’s answering phones he quickly moved up to studio manager, and eventually becoming A&R for one of their labels and then moving on to other record labels. How did he achieve this? “Always have an angle, be strategic.” Today, Simpson is the founder/CEO of Grassroots Marketing Media Consulting Group LLC where his company and co-Editor in Chief of F.A.M.E. The Experience Magazine. He uses his experience and knowledge of the music and entertainment industries to find talent and help “you to build your brand from the ground up.”
